Evanston police arrested a 51-year-old Waukegan man at the Target store on Sherman Avenue Thursday after a store employee told officers he was the same man who eluded authorities after an armed robbery at the store nearly a year ago.

Cmdr. Ryan Glew says Michael S. Richmond, 51, of 2023 N. Butrick St. in Waukegan, entered the store last May 18 and wielded a knife as he got away with $28 worth of beer.

A 27-year-old male employee of the store told police he recognized Richmond when he came into the downtown Target about 3 p.m. Thursday and attempted to steal more beer and some T-shirts.

Police arrested Richmond on an armed robbery charge for the 2018 incident and retail theft for stealing merchandise yesterday, Glew said.

Richmond is scheduled to appear at the Skokie courthouse on June 6 at 9 a.m.
