Keep Evanston Beautiful held its 19th annual Garden Walk Sunday afternoon showing off gardens at seven private homes and two local school sites.
The garden pond at 1138 Sheridan Road.
Perhaps the most lavish private garden featured was at 1138 Sheridan Road, where owners Cyndee Keiser and Fred Wall said they went off to Europe after talking to their garden service about the idea of a pond, and came back to see it fully up and running — complete with an island and a babbling brook.
The garden also features a bocce court and espaliered trees on the brick retaining walls leading to the basement-level garage.
Bullfrog sculptures were a prominent feature of some private gardens.
But live bullfrogs were on view in the two natural-prairie ponds at the Evanston Township High School nature center,
that also offered an abundance of native wildflowers at its location just west of the school’s stadium.
Umbrellas and rain gear were the order of the day as frequent showers mixed with scattered sunshine, making the gardens look extra lush.
And there were plenty of garden features to catch the eye — from garden gates to collections of stones.
The walk helps support educational programs in Evanston/Skokie schools and Keep Evanston Beautiful recycling, water reduction and anti-litter programs.
