National Weather Service forecasters expect we’ll get 6 to 9 inches of heavy, wet snow between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.

Edgar Cano, who runs snow operations for Evanston’s Public Works Agency says the storm is likely to drop 3 to 3.5 inches on us between 6 p.m. and midnight Saturday, with another 2 to 3 inches by 7 a.m. Sunday.

Lake effect snowfall could add another 1 to 2 inches during the day Sunday, Cano says.

The weather service says the storm may make travel dangerous both because of the snow and expected easterly winds gusting up to 35 miles per hour.

In anticipation of the storm and the cleanup work needed afterward, the city has already extended free parking in city garages through next Wednesday.
