Evanston firefighters found flames and heavy smoke in the living room and kitchen of a home at 1830 Laurel Ave. when they responded to a call there about 7:40 p.m. Thursday.

Fire units were called in from neighboring communities to help Evanston crews who managed to prevent the fire in the two-story frame home with a gambrel roof from spreading to upstairs bedrooms.

They managed to extinguish the blaze in just under a half hour.

No injuries were reported, but the family of five living in the home has been temporarily displaced.

Hohl says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
