What’s on stage: Theater and performance preview

Here’s a shortlist of what's happening on stage in and around Evanston this week and next.

Outside Mullingar” opens at the Northlight Theatre in Skokie on March 14. Written by Pulitzer Prize winner John Patrick Shanley, “Outside Mullingar” brings hope to an isolated cattle farm-boy and his potential lover. Through eccentricity and introversion, Shanley builds a relationship for these two hopefuls over the course of a surprising and mishap-ridden courtship.

Performances of “The Diary of Anne Frank” continue at Writers Theatre in Glencoe through June 28. Based on the perennial classic, this new adaptation is directed by Chicago favorite Kimberly Senior in a claustrophobic setting.

And you don't have much longer to catch “Circuscope” at Actors Gymnasium in Evanston. That run ends on March 22. A petri dish of fantastical performances, this circus has received high praise from many critics and is not a performance to be missed. Read Evanston Now's review.
