Jonathan Wilburn captured first place in the triple jump Saturday at the United States Track and Field Region 7 qualifying meet at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Wilburn, a junior-to-be at Evanston Township High School, produced a winning jump of 45 feet, 3 inches to rule the 17-18 year-old division. With that effort, Wilburn qualified for the USATF Junior Olympic Nationals set for July 25-31 in Sacramento, California.
Two other Evanston athletes fell short of qualifying. In the 17-18 division, Christian Nielsen placed 7th in the shot put with a toss of 48-3 and 9/10ths, while incoming ETHS freshman Sacrad Michelin took 8th in the 13-14 open 400 meter dash in 57.22 seconds.
