Evanston’s basketball team was awarded the No. 1 seed for the Class 4A Glenbrook South Sectional grouping according to pairings released by the Illinois High School Association this week.
Coach Mike Ellis’ team was voted No. 1 by participating coaches ahead of No. 2 Deerfield, No. 3 Stevenson and No. 4 Notre Dame in the 21-team field. The Wildkits will open play in the Warren Regional on Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. against the Warren-Glenbrook South winner.
Also participating in the Warren Regional are No. 8 Niles North and No. 9 Libertyville. The championship game is set for March 4 at 7 p.m.
The Wildkits saw their 13-game winning string snapped Friday night in Park Ridge in a 61-55 loss to Maine South. Evanston fell to 21-3 overall with two games left in the regular season, a matchup with Chicago Simeon on Saturday and a Central Suburban League crossover date at Deerfield next Wednesday.
Nojel Eastern scored a career-high 28 points and added 9 rebounds and 7 assists versus Maine South as the division champion Wildkits settled for a final league record of 9-1.
