Evanston Township High School’s football team beat Waukegan 41-6 Friday night. That brought the Kits record to 4-2.
Before the game, head groundskeeper Jerry Robinson tossed the coin, as the crowd saluted his 30 years of service to ETHS – with 18 years “outside” and 8 years as head groundskeeper.
Robinson has prepared for over 4,500 football, baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse and tennis contests in his years as a groundskeeper.
At half-time, the crowd honored Evanston’s youth football programs – the Junior Wildkits, the Chargers, and the Raiders – as they came roaring down the hill behind the north end zone and storming across the field to the other side.
Each week, a portion of the ticket gate is given to a charity — and the youth football programs were the recipients this week. The sophomore team under QB Chris Little’s leadership remains undefeated.
Boys Soccer
Varsity boys soccer travelled to Springfield for a three-game tournament this weekend, and beat Wheaton North in the first game 3-0.
Game 2 on Saturday vs. Springfield Sacred Heart was a nail biter, with the Kits down 1-3 and 8 minutes to go. The boys rallied to tie, which sent the game into overtime. The contest went to a second overtime with the Kits playing against a 20 mph wind.
Manny Quiroz scored the winning goal to set the scene for a championship game vs. the Kits’ best competition of the year, Wheaton Academy, who ended up beating the boys 3-0.
Last week, the Kits clinched the Central Suburban League-South Championship, and will play in the first-ever CSL Conference “Soccer Bowl” (South division champ vs. North division champ) on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at home vs. Highland Park at 7 p.m.
