Wings over Evanston, the chicken carryout restaurant with an aeronautical theme, has closed and is expected to soon be replaced by a Pizza Hut.
The Wings Over chain no longer lists any Chicago-area locations, and the phone for the Evanston restaurant, which was approved for a special use permit in 2010, has been disconnected.
Wings over Evanston had received distinctly mixed reviews, but kept late-night hours that apparently made it a favorite among some Northwestern students.
Pizza Hut has filed a request with city officials to take over the space at 1115 Emerson St., and Evanston Community Development Director Mark Muenzer told the Daily Northwestern this week that because it’s a similar use, the transfer of the special use permit is likely to be routine.
The closest existing Pizza Hut location is at 951 Howard St. in Evanston.
