The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Evanston running from 5 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday for a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and ice.

The storm is expected to start with snow late Friday afternoon with snowfall continuing through Friday evening.

It’s expected to change over to sleet and freezing rain late Friday night.

The sleet and snow could total 2 to 5 inches, according to the forecast, with the potential for another one-tenth of an inch of ice.

Then Saturday afternoon we can look for a strong cold front with rapidly falling temperaturs, scattered snow showers and strong westerly winds gusting to 45 miles per hour.
