Evanston fire investigators say they believe an electrical problem caused a fire in a home at 2505 Ridge Ave. this morning.

Division Chief Thomas Janetske says firefighters found heavy smoke on the home’s second floor when they arrived about 9:15 a.m.

He says fire damage was limited to the second floor, but heat and smoke damaged the rest of the house and the home’s resident was assisted in finding alternate housing.

The fire was extinguished by about 11:20 a.m. and no injuries were reported.

Fire units from surrounding communities provided backup support while Evanston crews were on the fire scene.
