With surging COVID-19 case numbers in Evanston, the city has announced that Monday night’s special City Council meeting will be held in an online-only format.
The meeting will be aired live on the city’s YouTube channel.
The alders are scheduled at the 6 p.m. meeting to discuss a staff proposal to use American Rescue Plan Act funds to expand programs aimed at reducing youth violence in the wake of a shooting incident that left one teenager dead and four others wounded late last month and the discovery of two guns at Evanston Township High School last week.
Those interesting in participating in public comment should complete the online signup form.
The city hasn’t released new case numbers since Friday, when the figures reached the highest level of the pandemic so far with 161 new cases for the day. Updated COVID case numbers are expected to be released at mid-afternoon Monday.
