Evanston police say an 80-year-old woman was robbed of her purse late this morning as she walked on Main Street near Custer Avenue.

Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says the woman had just left the Charte One Bank at Main and Chicago Avenue.

As she walked westbound on Main a young man grabbed her purse. The robber and two companions then ran into the alley north of Main Street, got into a vehicle and drove off.

Police say the woman described her attacker as an 18- to 22-year-old male black wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

The victim, an Evanston resident, was not injured.

I know this is horrible. What kind of person robs an 80-year-old woman in broad daylight? So sad…and disappointing.

What planet have you been living on? Purse snatching and targeting women aren't exactly new concepts. I'm hoping the women of Evanston aren't that naive.
