Evanston police are investigating an incident in which a 67-year-old woman fell into Lake Michigan this afternoon while walking along the pier at the city’s boat ramp.

By the time police and fire units resonding to a 911 call arrived at the scene at 1701 Sheridan Road about 4:45 p.m., a passerby had already pulled the victim from the water and begun CPR.

The woman, who lives in Evanston, was unresponsive, but paramedics were able to restore her vital signs after administering additional emergency care.

She was transported to Evanston Hospital where she’s now listed in critical but stable condition.
