Evanston police say a 71-year-old woman was hit by a car shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 1900 block of Sheridan Road.

Police quote witnesses as saying the pedestrian was walking westbound across Sheridan against the light when she was struck near Foster Street by a southbound Mercedes Benz that was driving within the posted speed limit on the rainy evening.

Evanston fire paramedics responded to the scene treated and transported the victim to a local hospital. Evanston police along with the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force Major Crash Assistance Team jointly investigated this accident.

Commander Tom Guenther says the investigation revealed that neither the driver nor the pedestrian were impaired at the time of the accident, and neither party received citations.
