Police say a 20-year-old Evanston woman is hospitalized in stable condition after a shooting incident Tuesday night in the 1800 block of Madison Street.
Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew says that the victim was sitting in a car with two other female Evanston residents, one 18, the other 15, when they noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area and tried to leave.
As they did, Glew says, the suspicious vehicle stopped, two occupants got out, fired shots in their direction, and then got back in their car and fled the area.
Glew says it appears the injured woman was struck in the face by bullet fragments.
He says no suspects are in custody and information about the offenders and their vehicle is pending further investigation.
He added that it is not known if the victim and the two other occupants were the intended target, but that the investigation indicates the location of this shooting was likely not random.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Evanston Police Detective Bureau at 847-866-5040 or Text-A-Tip to CRIME (274637) and then start your message with EPDTIP.
