A young woman is hospitalized at Evanston Hospital this noon after being injured when she was struck by a vehicle as she crossed Ridge Avenue.

Evanston Fire Chief Greg Klaiber says the accident occurred at 2020 Ridge Ave., near Foster Street, about 10:20 a.m.

She was crossing from the east to the west side of the street when she was struck by a southbound vehicle.

Klaiber says she suffered fractures to her lower leg and may have suffered some head trauma in the incident, but was conscious when paramedics from Ambulance 21 transported her to the hospital.

Although the accident happened in front of a Northwestern University owned building, Klaiber said the woman, who was either 18 or 19 years old, was not a student at the university.

No word was immediately available from Evanston police about whether any charges had been filed in the incident.
