Evanston firefighters rescued a woman who fell into Lake Michigan while walking on rocks along the waterfront this morning.

Evanston Fire Chief Greg Klaiber says witnesses out walking their dogs heard the victim, a woman in her 30s, struggling after she fell into the water while walking along the breakwall at the Church Street boat ramp.

Klaiber says the victim was wedged between rocks in the water at the north end of the breakwall.

The department’s personal watercraft team responded to the scene and was able to extricate her.

Klaiber says she was transported to St. Francis Hospital with symptoms of hypothermia.
