Evanston’s lakefront will look a bit like a global village this weekend for the World Arts & Music Festival, a two-day celebration of global diversity that opens this noon.

This free event features art from a range of countries, family crafts activities, international cuisine, and live music and dance performances.

There’ll also be continuous performances throughout the weekend at two venues during festival hours of noon to 7 p.m. today and Sunday at Dawes Park, located at Church Street and Sheridan Road.

The World Arts & Music Festival is sponsored by the City of Evanston Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department and partially supported by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.

A schedule of performances and list of vendors is available online.

It’s the first year for the newly revamped version of what previously was known as the city’s Ethnic Arts Festival.
