Yard waste pickup starts April 1

The City of Evanston’s weekly yard waste pickups begin on Tuesday, April 1 and continue on regular refuse/recycling collection days through Thursday, Nov. 27.

To ensure compliance with state laws, yard waste must be collected separately from the rest of the household waste.

To dispose of yard waste, residents can place it in paper yard waste bags, such as the 30 gallon Kraft Paper Lawn Waste Bags available in packages at local stores.

Plastic bags will not be collected. Residents may choose purchase City of Evanston 90-gallon reusable Yard Waste Carts that do not require the use of bags. To order a Yard Waste Cart, residents can complete the form on the City’s website, and return it with their payments to the City Collector. Carts cost $81.56.

Residents are also invited to compost and mulch their yard waste to recycle the earth’s nutrients. For further information on this process, call the Ecology Center, (847) 448-8256.

Residents disposing of brush must be sure it is bundled and no longer than four feet in length and four inches in diameter. Raking or blowing yard waste or leaves into the streets is illegal; violators will be fined.

For more information on yard waste season, call Streets and Sanitation, (847) 866-2940.
