Yellow Line halted after crash in Skokie

Service on the CTA Yellow Line through Evanston has been suspended after a train collided with a car at the East Prairie Avenue crossing in Skokie.

Two people were pulled from the mangled wreckage of the car. One victim — a woman — was pronounced dead at Skokie Hospital, the other victim was being treated at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Several people on the train also reportedly were hospitalized with injuries.

Evanstion fire units were sent to help Skokie crews with their response to the accident scene.

East Prairie is the first ground-level crossing in Skokie after the Yellow Line tracks descend from their elevated crossing over McCormick Boulevard.

The accident happened about 10:20 a.m. No word yet on when Yellow Line service may resume. CTA commuters are being told to use the Route 97 bus instead.
