The Youth Job Center of Evanston is a 2011 Comcast Cares Day partner, which means as many as 40 Comcast employees, families and friends will spend Saturday, April 30, giving the YJC a much needed face lift.

Comcast volunteers will be joined by YJC board and staff members as they thoroughly clean, organize and refresh both the interior and exterior of the main facility located at 1114 Church Street in Evanston.

The Youth Job Center, located in a Victorian house, has doubled its staff in the past five years. With the increase in staff comes an increased amount of “stuff” and much of that stuff has ended up being “stored” in the attic space, individual offices and other common areas.

Both Comcast employees and YJC board and staff will work to bring order to these areas, recycling obsolete files, boxing up financial records and delivering outdated computer equipment to YTC (Youth Technology Corps) for their use.

Additionally, volunteers will clean the remaining three floors of office space including desktops, file cabinets, all exposed surfaces and the over 40 windows in the building.

Countryside Landscape Company has donated a variety of materials to enhance the yard surrounding the house.  Volunteers who are not busy cleaning the interior will work to prepare the yard for spring by spreading top soil and grass seed as well as planting shrubbery, flowers and other plants.

Nearly 1400 young people walk through the doors of the Youth Job Center in the course of a year; and that’s a lot of wear and tear on the building.
