Evanston Now is asking readers to help increase our ability to cover news in the community.

We’ve been encouraged by the support many readers have shown over the past year by joining our voluntary membership program.

But we need to have more of our regular readers participate to reach the goal of being able to significantly increase our reporting staff.

So today we’re launching a metered paywall. It will let all readers visit the home page and section pages as often as they like without charge. But it will limit readers who have not subscribed to reading three full stories per month.

Subscription models have become increasingly important to online publications in recent years, from the New York Times to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Last week refugees from the shuttered DNAinfo launched Block Club Chicago to cover Chicago neighborhoods with a subscription plan.

So I hope you’ll join our new subscription plan, which costs as little as $1.25 per week.

And, thanks for reading!
