Confirmed employers include In Home Services, Rimland, Levy Security, North Shore Community Bank, UPS, Chipotle, Toys R Us, TJ Maxx, Charlotte Russe, US Cellular, North Shore Hospital, HCR Manor Care, PLS Check Cashers, Van Ru Credit Corp., US Border Patrol, Aerotek, and Restoration Hardware.
The Fall Job Fair comes at a critical time for Chicago-area job seekers. Unemployment in Illinois was 10.6 percent in December and has been consistently higher than the national rate. Though the national unemployment rate has since begun to drop, the number of teens employed in Chicago is at a new all-time low.
More than 500 candidates attended the YJC’s Spring Job Fair this year. YJC Employer Outreach Coordinator Jordan Burghardt says she expects this fair to draw as many or more job seekers looking for relief during this difficult economic time.
“Now more than ever increasing numbers of entry level job seekers are in need of assistance in finding work,” she said. “By providing a fair full of quality employers who are ready to hire and individuals who are equipped to work, we are hoping to benefit both parties with our services during this crucial time. The job fair is free and open to the public; this is a great way for employers to get a diverse pool of jobseekers for their entry level positions and seasonal hires.”
Employers must be currently hiring in order to attend the YJC job fair. Employers represent industries in retail, staffing, healthcare and shipping with opportunities for both seasonal and permanent positions.
Resumes and professional dress are strongly recommended. Job-seekers should arrive no later than 3:30 p.m. to allow enough time to meet with employers.
