The Youth Job Center of Evanston opened its satellite office at Evanston Township High School today, offering employment resources, training, job fairs and more for the academic year.

The satellite office, known as the Outpost @ ETHS, is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:30 to 2:30 p.m., and Thursdays from 1 to 5 p.m.

Students can drop in without an appointment to receive YJC services, which include assistance developing a resume, learning how to search for jobs, practicing interviews, understanding employer expectations and other job-readiness skills.

With the teenage unemployment rate at almost 24 percent, YJC Outpost Job Coach Pam Kaul said she looks forward to helping high school students build a solid career foundation during this critical economic time.

“It’s a tough job market out there, especially for younger teenagers,” she said. “I think our services can help young people feel more prepared for the interviewing process, as well as help them obtain and keep a job. It’s a great step toward a fulfilling career in the future.”

The YJC will host an informational coffee and dessert centering on the Outpost on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 2 to 3 p.m. The event will include guest speaker Dr. Eric Witherspoon, superintendent of Evanston School District 202, to discuss issues of teenage unemployment and poverty, and the importance of job-readiness and placement programs.

All are welcome; for more details, please R.S.V.P. to 847-864-5627 or khoopingarner@youthjobcenter.org.
