YWCA Evanston/North Shore has been awarded a $1 million grant from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation in support of its campus expansion, which will include a new building to support its domestic violence services and an upgrade of existing facilities.

Including the Weinberg grant, YWCA has now raised a total of $16.6 million toward its funding goal of $18.5 million for the project.
YWCA’s expansion project broke ground in early 2020. When completed, it will double the capacity of the organization’s emergency shelter for domestic abuse survivors and their families, expand classroom and training space for economic empowerment and racial equity programs and upgrade the pool areas to boost its mission-driven aquatics programs.
The Baltimore-based Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation is focused on meeting the basic needs of people experiencing poverty by supporting organizations that provide direct services in the areas of housing, health, jobs, education, and community services.
YWCA Evanston/North Shore serves more than 10,000 people annually in northern Cook County.
