Join Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl along with the Downtown Evanston Board of Directors, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce and staff in celebrating the opening of Prana Cafe.  A ribbon cutting celebration will take place at October 29th at 1:00pm, 1840 Oak Avenue. The general public is invited to stop by to sample house-made French pastries and locally roasted coffee.

Prana Café officially opened its’ doors mid-October and serves artisanal paninis, contemporary salads, fresh smoothies and French pastries, in addition to a full espresso bar. The newly renovated space features hand-crafted tables made of repurposed pine by artist Todd Manring, surrounded by a soothing color scheme, warm lighting and local artwork.

Each of the Café’s four owners brings something special to the restaurant: Simon Blanco provides his vast knowledge and taste for Latin American coffee; Ernesto Ghinaglia lends his experience as a professional barista; Ken Cox brings his contemporary style to the menu, while Griffin Cox brings youth and enthusiasm.

“Prana means life force and it our belief that the act of feeding someone is a sacred exchange. We serve only the highest-quality meat, vegetables, and bread in our hand-crafted paninis,” said Griffin Cox. “We decided to open our restaurant in Evanston because of the relatively little cost and hassle compared to opening anywhere in Chicago. The Chamber and the City of Evanston have both been amazingly helpful in the process of opening a restaurant.”

“We are excited to welcome Prana Café to downtown Evanston,” said Carolyn Dellutri, Executive Director, Downtown Evanston. “Be sure to stop by to sample the treats at our newest restaurant!”

During the month of October folks will receive a free Oogave soda with purchase when they mention ‘Downtown Evanston.’  Oogave is 100% agave-sweetened and comes in unique flavors such as watermelon cream, strawberry rhubarb, and grapefruit.
