Sixth Ward Ald. Mark Tendam sent out an email alert Tuesday to his constituents to warn them of a rash of garage burglaries in his ward that were facilitated by unlocked garages.

He noted that today’s daily crime bulletin from the police department “reports that, on the night of Nov. 29, seven bicycles were stolen from three garages on Lincoln Street and Harrison Street.”

Noting that all three garages were unlocked, Tendam concluded that “with this kind of success, the burglars will be back in the ward. Until we all lock up, we’re all at risk.”

The alderman advised residents of his ward to let the police know in advance if planning to be away for a vacation or holiday by sending an email to officer Loyce Spells or by calling the non-emergency police number at (847) 866-5000.

His warning also included a link to home security tips posted by the police.
