Evanston health officials reported 10 new COVID-19 cases today, down from 21 reported yesterday. The city’s death toll remained unchanged at 88.

Statewide there were 8,256 new cases today, compared to 7,910 yesterday, for a new total of 812,430.

The state reported 179 deaths today, compared to 144 yesterday, for a new total of 13,666.

The state reported 92,737 COVID-19 tests today, compared to 95,825 yesterday.

Gov. J.B. Pritkzer at his coronavirus news conference this afternoon discussed the need for continued testing for months as the vaccine program rolls out.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported tests of 751 Evanston residents today, compared to 313 yesterday. It found 25 positive cases for a daily positive rate of 3.3%.

The state now says Evanston has had a total of 2,662 cases, while Evanston’s health department counts 2,590 cases.

Chicago reported 1,309 new cases today for a total of 177,061. Its coronavirus death toll increased by 17 today to 3,662.

Suburban Cook County reported 1,580 more cases today for a total of 161,032 and 47 more deaths for a total of 3,179.

Those who died in Cook County today included one woman and three men in their 40s, three men in their 50s, five women and seven men in their 60s, five women and nine men in their 70s, 11 women and 11 men in their 80s, seven women and two men in their 90s and one woman over 100 years old.

As of last night, 5,284 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 1,176 patients were in the ICU and 647 of those were on ventilators.
