Evanston police say a man from Chicago’s south side has been charged with shoplifting from the Jewel-Osco on Howard Street.

But there were five other reports of shoplifting over the weekend with no arrests — at the Walgreens drug stores on Chicago Avenue and on Green Bay Road, the Whole Foods and the Target downtown, and at a convenience store in the 800 block of Main Street.

A red 2017 Hyundai Elantra was discovered missing from the 300 block of Callan Avenue Monday morning and a thief damaged the steering column of a 2020 Kia Sorento trying to steal it from the 1600 block of Greenwood Street.

Burglars stole a spare tire from a 2010 Mercedes in the 1700 block of Crain, a license plate from a 2013 GMC in the 400 block of Greenleaf and cash from a 2008 Chrysler in the 1600 block of Sheridan.
