Northlight Theatre officials say they plan to start demolition work on the existing buildings on their new Evanston theater site later this month.

Approval by the City Council last month of $2 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funding for the $26 million theater project has cleared the way for the demolition work.

Ald. Jonathan Nieuwsma, whose 4th Ward includes the theater site, says he’s “excited to see this much-anticipated project make some visible progress.”

Northlight officials are scheduled to attend a ward meeting June 7 to discuss the timeframe for building the new theater.
