Evanston police officials announced at a news conference this afternoon that they’ve concluded the death of 10-year-old Aquan Lewis was a suicide.

The 5th grade youngster was found hanging from a hook in a bathroom stall at Oakton Elementary School on Feb. 3. The county medical examiner earlier had also concluded the death was a suicide.

The police report failed to satisfy Todd Smith, an attorney for Aquan’s mother, who said he believes there was negligence by school officials in the incident.

Bill Smith is the editor and publisher of Evanston Now.
