The new annual ranking of high schools from U.S. News is out, and it places Evanston Township High School as the 39th best public high school in Illinois.

That ranking is up two places from 2022, but down from its ranking late in the last decade.

U.S. News says ETHS ranks 933rd in the nation as a whole, compared to 955th two year ago. That’s out of nearly 18,000 schools rated.

In a statement, Superintendent Marcus Campbell said the ranking “reflects not only the achievements of our students, but also the commitment of our teachers and staff, and the support of our families.”

The top-rated schools in the state include several selective enrollment schools in Chicago and a number of suburban high schools, most of which have student populations that on average are considerably more affluent than the student population at ETHS.
