Evanston’s City Council Monday night is scheduled to add five new events to the city’s special events calendar — bringing the list to 104.

The biggest new event is a two day folk festival at Dawes Park on the lakefront the weekend of Sept. 7-8.

Festival organizers, who announced the line up of performers on Monday, say they’ll have three musical stages featuring more than 30 artists.

They’re billing it as a family-friendly daytime event that will also feature ticketed evening performances at SPACE and Cahn Auditorium.

A week later, on Saturday, Sept. 14, James Karner is organizing an ultra-marathon that would have participants a run a 5-mile loop along the lakefront, around the lakefill and back, with the start/finish line at Elliott Park.

Participants would sign up for either a six-hour or 12-hour race and complete as many loops of the track as they can.

Two new events are planned for June and one for July.

First Congregational Church of Evanston is planning a “Faith and Family Pride Festival” from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Raymond Park.

Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2515 Central Park Ave., will host a “Neighborhood Preparedness Fair” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. displaying the city’s emergency response equipment and discussing shelter operations.

And, Stacked and Folded restaurant plans to host a family-friendly activity event from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, at Tallmadge Park.

A full list of all 104 events, and more detail about the new ones, is available in the City Council packet.
