Evanston police say a 51-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a man who invaded her Florence Avenue home Saturday morning.

Commander Tom Guenther says the man gained entry to the home, in the 1000 block of Florence, about 4:35 a.m. through an unsecured first-floor window.

After the woman awoke and discovered the man in the building, he demanded sex, made threats that he was armed, sexually assaulted her and then fled the home after taking money from her purse.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s, 5-feet-3 to 5-feet-5-inches tall, with short curly hair.

Police are asking anyone who may have information about the case to call the investigations bureau at 847-866-5040.

Editor’s note: Police initially reported that this incident took place in the 1100 block of Florence, but now say it actually happened in the 1000 block.
