The rain we had in Evanston this morning has now changed to snow and it’s expected to continue falling for the next couple of hours.

Assistant Public Works Director James Maiworm says pavement temperatures are 38 to 42 degrees now so the snow will have a hard time accumulating on the roads to start with.

Snow accumulations of less than a half inch are expected, mostly on grassy surfaces.

Air temperatures will continue to fall all afternoon reaching 28 to 25 degrees by 8 p.m.

Maiworm says public works crews are pre-salting main roads throughout the city to prevent freeze back and will move into side streets as required.

Crews, he says, will begin shoveling around public buildings and along business district sidewalks shortly.
