Northwestern University President Michael Schill, who peacefully resolved Palestine protests on campus last week, has been called to testify before a hostile congressional committee later this month.

Schill will be joined on the hot seat May 23 by another college president who peacefully resolved similar protests, Rutger’s Jonathan Holloway, who previously was provost at NU.

The chair of the Committee on Education and the Workforce, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), said in a press release Monday that the two schools “have made shocking concessions to the unlawful antisemitic encampments on their campus … in despicable displays of cowardice.”

Foxx has also called the president of the University of California, Los Angeles, Gene Block, to testify at the same hearing. UCLA saw the arrests of 44 pro-Palestinian demonstrators Monday after police let a violent mob attack a protest encampment last Tuesday night.

The committee late last year grilled the leaders of Harvard, Columbia, MIT and the University of Pennsylvania over reports of antisemitism on their campuses. The leaders of Harvard and Penn have since resigned.

In a statement, the university said the school’s “foremost responsibility is ensuring the safety of our students” and that Schill looks forward to discussing the actions the school has taken with the committee.
