Police say an 18-year-old Evanston resident has been charged with armed robbery while detectives seek two other suspects in the incident.

Cmdr. Ryan Glew says Samnang Toem of 2227 Foster St. admitted that he allowed his phone to be used to order the pizza, intending to rob the driver late on the night of Dec. 10, but claimed he wasn’t armed.

Glew says the driver told officers that as he got out of his car, three subjects approached. One produced a knife and announced the robbery. As the victim retreated into his vehicle, a second reached into the vehicle and grabbed the victim’s phone and the third robber demanded the code to access the phone. The victim then fled in his vehicle.

Toem, who was arrested early Tuesday morning, was released from custody at a detention hearing Friday.

Police say another food delivery driver was robbed about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue.

Shoplifters stole diapers from the Jewel-Osco on Howard and alcohol in three incidents at the Valle Produce on Dempster. And two people were charged in separate domestic battery incidents.
