The Evanston/Skokie District 65 school board gained two new members Monday and lost a combined 20 years of board experience.

The new board elected Keith Terry president, succeeding Mary Erickson, who is leaving the board after 12 years of service. Mary Rita Luecke is also leaving the board after eight years. Jerome Summers was chosen vice president for the new term.

Both Terry and Summers are incumbent board members. The two new members who joined the board Monday are Tracy Quattrocki and Kim Weaver.

Community members, fellow board members and Superintendent Hardy Murphy paid tribute – emotionally at times – as the old board held its final meeting.

“I see you all as two wise women,” said board member Bonnie Lockart of Erickson and Luecke. “I hope that I can come to the level that you all have.”

Murphy delivered an impassioned speech praising both outgoing board member and unveiled an artist’s portrait of Erickson, commissioned by private donors. The rendering will be displayed in the lobby of the Joseph E. Hill Education Center.
