Evanston health officials reported three new COVID-19 cases among city residents today while the state reported 2,120 cases across Illinois.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported what apparently is a one-day record for coronavirus tests, of 61,918. That yields a positive rate of 3.4% for the day compared to a seven-day average positive rate of 3.6%

The IDPH reported tests of 325 Evanston residents today and it found 6 positive cases for a positive rate of 1.9%. The state now says Evanston has had a total of 1,072 cases.

By the city’s count, Evanston now has a total of 1,078 COVID-19 cases. The city’s death toll from the disease remained unchanged today at 73.

Chicago reported 269 new cases today for a total of 76,511 and two more deaths for a total of 2,925.

Suburban Cook County reported 318 more cases today for a total of 61,069 and one more death for a total of 2,225.

The state now has 270,327 COVID-19 cases and it reported 19 more deaths today for a total of 8,411.

The state said 24 counties now are at a warning level for COVID-19. That’s down from 30 counties a week ago and none of the affected counties are in the Chicago metro area.
