Five unsolved Evanston homicides will be among the cases featured on a new television show that starts Saturday on 11 p.m. on WPWR-Channel 50.

The cases will be shown on different episodes over this new season.

Evanston police officials say they hope the program will renew public awareness of the cases and help develop additional leads that will result in the identification and arrest of the offenders.

The 30-minute program, “Crime Stoppers Case Files – Chicago” features two cases per episode.

The show’s creator, Shawn Rech, says viewers will get to know the victims from their family and friends and learn the facts of the cases from investigating detectives.

Rech adds that “from the privacy of their own homes, the audience can report information anonymously and receive a reward for it.”

Chicago is the fourth market to air the show, which also has local edition for Cleveland, Los Angeles and Miami.

Bill Smith is the editor and publisher of Evanston Now.
