The Evanston Police Department will honor graduates of the 28th session of the Citizens Police Academy at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, in the auditorium at Rotary International, 1560 Sherman Ave.

U.S Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Evanston will give the keynote address.

Over 600 Evanston residents have completed the academy program since it began in 1995.

The 12-week program provides instruction in the criminal justice system, use of force, traffic law, juvenile investigations, gang and drug enforcement efforts, problem oriented policing, evidence collection and a host of other police related topics.

In addition to the weekly classroom instruction, each academy student completes a three hour ride-along with an Evanston Police officer in the field.
