The Oakton College Board of Trustees Tuesday named Evanston resident Marie Lynn Toussaint to serve a one-year term as board chair.

Martha Burns of Evanston was named vice-chair and Morton Grove resident Theresa Bashiri-Remetio was named secretary.

Toussaint said she and other board members “will continue to prioritize supporting students as they work toward their educational goals.”

Toussaint was elected to a six-year term as an Oakton trustee in 2019. She has been a criminal defense attorney for more than two decades.

The new leaders succeed trustees Wendy B. Yanow of Evanston as board chair, Gail Bush Evanston as vice chair and William Stafford of Evanston as secretary.

Oakton’s seven-member board also includes Benjamin Salzberg of Glenview.

Franklin Ocaña II joins the Board as a student trustee, having been elected by Oakton’s student body to serve a one-year term in the role.
