Hundreds of people stood along Ridge Avenue near downtown Evanston just before noon today to join in a national YWCA campaign to build support for racial justice.
The event drew lots of supportive honks from passing drivers on Ridge.
It was one of several such events around the city, and what organizers said were more than 500 across the country.
Enough already
Enough already with this stuff.
Enough of what?
I know, right? These citizens act like there’s something in the Constitution protecting the right to peaceably assemble. Who do these people think they are
We’ve got to stay vigilant before they petition the government for a redress of grievances.
When there are demonstrations
When there are demonstrations seemingly every other day the message and thr truth gets a bit diluted. Everything gets a racial/racist attachment whether applicable or not. Library administrators, news blog editors, police, Trump, white men, non muslims,…all racist, zenophobic haters!! Didn’t read about anyone trying to violently shut down this peaceful assemblage. Do you suppose the same would happen if say, Anne Coulter wanted to exercise her same right on Ridge Avenue?
Ann Coulter is a business,
Ann Coulter is a business, but hey give it a shot. She requires first class airfare and 2 hotel rooms. I see your point. Would there be counter demonstrations if people disagreed with the message? Definitely. That’s free speech, too. You honestly think it would be “violently shut down” or you being hyperbolic? This America stuff is hard. http://premierespeakers.com/ann_coulter
Enough?
“This stuff” happens to be the result of hundreds of years of mass murder, torture and abuse. You know, little stuff without consequences…
oh cool racism defeated.
oh cool racism defeated. Great work to all involved.
FACE TO FACE
At least people participating are getting out being face-to-face with each other and not making snarky comments back and forth that no body would say out loud to each other. It is just a small thing. Not trying to SAVE the WORLD from ourselves, but really, when you do this, it makes your heart a little sweeter. Try it!
