One person suffered burns in an accident this afternoon at Silverman Hall on Northwestern University’s Evanston campus.
Fire officials on the scene said the victim suffered second degree burns to his torso. He was transported by ambulance to Evanston Hospital.
The incident, which happened shortly before 3 p.m., reportedly involved the chemical acetone, a highly volatile and flammable liquid that, in addition to its industrial uses, is is the primary ingredient in nail polish remover.
Research at Silverman Hall focuses on molecular therapeutics and diagnostics.
