Evanston City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz says the city’s police department is experiencing communications problems at this hour.

911 calls are being routed to the Wilmette police department dispatch center and they will communicate to Evanston police from there.

Regular telephone service also disrupted.  For now, residents should call 911 for any police issue, Bobkiewicz says.

Update 6:55 p.m.: Police Chief Richard Eddington says the department’s phone system now is back in operation.
