Evanston police have charged a 38-year-old Chicago man with first degree murder in the death of a man who’s body was found in the 1800 block of Simpson Street Friday night.
Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew says Sandoval Cobian, of the 5800 block of South Washtenaw in Chicago, was romantically involved with the same woman as the victim, 33-year-old Angel Miranda of the 2800 block of South Central Park Avenue in Chicago.
The woman lived near the where Miranda’s body was found adjacent to Twiggs Park in Evanston. He’d been shot numerous times in the torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Glew says Cobian was in his car when he fired the fatal shots at Miranda, who was standing in a yard behind a building on the block. Under state law that’s led to his being charged with two counts of first degree murder, one for the fatal shooting itself and the other for firing the fatal shots from inside a vehicle.
Cobian is scheduled to appear in bond court at the Skokie courthouse on Friday.
