Parking meter rates and hours outside Evanston’s downtown will increase to match the downtown rates and hours starting Jan. 2.

The rates outside the downtown area, now 75-cents per hour, will increase to $1 an hour. And meter operating hours, now 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. outside the downtown area, will increase to run from 8 am. to 9 p.m., the same as downtown.

The change is one of several new fee hikes the City Council imposed in adopting the 2018 city budget.

City officials say it may take a few weeks for all the meters and pay stations to be switched over to the new rate and operating hours, so check your meter to be sure.
